When couples near the retirement age they should be planning how their daily retirement lives will be and what their own idea of retirement means. For some couples the retirement age can vary – one person could retire years before the other is ready. Some couples do little planning and just quickly vision retirement time to be an easy transition from work. This is rarely the case.

Some couples could have individual needs or desires when they reach retirement. Some may picture retirement as moving to Florida, and spending their time in outdoor activities such as boating, golfing, and sightseeing. Pre-planning how retirement will be as a couple is important to decide as a couple.

A couple could decide they both want to retire at the same time, move to a smaller house or condo and spend their days traveling or sightseeing. Some may have a vision of retirement as staying in the home they own, volunteering in their community and taking up inexpensive hobbies.
